Go RVing Identifies Key Opportunity to Bring Former RV Owners Back

1 day ago 2

Go RVing has released a new special report focusing on former RV owners, offering key insights into a demographic that remains connected to the RV lifestyle despite no longer owning an RV.

The report, an extension of the RV Owner Demographic Profile, highlights the opportunity for the industry to re-engage this audience and potentially drive future sales growth.

According to a News and Insights report of RVIA, the study reveals that former owners closely resemble current RV owners in many ways, particularly in terms of age and income. A majority of them, 55%, are Gen-X and Baby Boomer families, and 63% have household incomes exceeding $50,000.

One of the report’s most findings is that 58% of former owners are open to purchasing another RV within the next five years. This figure points to a significant market opportunity for dealers, manufacturers, and others across the RV industry to bring back past customers who already understand the lifestyle.

Many of these individuals initially exited RV ownership due to life-stage changes, such as the birth of a child, adult children leaving home, or the loss of a spouse.

Financial concerns and lack of time also contributed to their decisions to sell. These personal shifts, while impactful, do not appear to have diminished their overall positive view of RVing.

Indeed, the report shows that over 22% of former RV owners still take RV trips, even though they do not currently own a vehicle.

“Spending time in nature” and “unwinding” were among the top reasons cited by former owners for initially purchasing an RV. These motivations remain relevant and provide a foundation for reconnecting with this group through targeted messaging and marketing.
