An estimated 28.2 million Americans are set to take an RV trip this spring, according to the RV Industry Association‘s Spring Travel Intentions Survey.

Of this number, 14.7 million plan to travel by RV for spring break. The survey, which captures insights from diverse U.S. demographics, highlights key trends in RV and leisure travel, offering valuable information for the industry.

Two-thirds of RV owners intend to travel by RV or rent one for their spring trips. Travelers are primarily planning destinations within a 7-to-15-hour drive, with beaches, national parks, and coastal areas leading the list.

Popular destinations include the Florida Keys, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and Las Vegas.

The survey reveals that RV travel is particularly appealing to younger generations. Seventy-one percent of Gen Z respondents and 72% of RV owners indicated plans to travel by RV this spring.

Millennials and Gen X follow closely behind, with 65% and 60% planning trips, respectively. In the next 12 months, 72 million Americans are expected to take an RV trip, with Millennials and Gen Z accounting for a large portion of the demand.

Motivations for RV travel include favorable weather, the desire to avoid crowded destinations, and the appeal of off-season savings.

The survey also revealed that over a quarter of all leisure travelers this year are considering renting or purchasing an RV. This trend aligns with the ongoing shift toward more flexible and outdoor-centered vacations, further solidifying RVing’s role in the American travel experience.

For manufacturers, dealers, and campground operators, these trends highlight the importance of adapting to new consumer preferences and the growing need for RV-friendly infrastructure.

“With more Americans turning to RVing for their spring and year-round travel plans, the outlook remains strong for RV manufacturers, campgrounds, and suppliers,” RVIA indicated.
