Thomas Point Beach and Campground in Brunswick, Maine, has been sold to Modern America Campgrounds, marking the end of nearly seven decades of family ownership.
The campground, a longstanding venue for regional festivals and cultural events, was originally purchased by Harry and Marion Crooker in 1956.
Known for hosting events such as the Maine Highland Games, the property has been a place in Maine’s outdoor recreation and cultural event scene.
According to a News Center Maine, several events previously scheduled at Thomas Point Beach for the summer have already been canceled. Among them are the Maine Folk Festival and the Point Reggae Arts and Music Festival.
“We plan to explore options for the future,” a statement from Maine Folk Festival organizers on the event’s website said “Incredibly grateful to all that have supported our work.”
The Point Reggae Arts and Music Festival also addressed the sale on social media, stating, “Thomas Point Beach and Campground has been sold. Although we are sad we will not be gathering in celebration… We are honored and grateful for the experience we’ve shared.”
Modern America Campgrounds announced its acquisition and future plans in a statement on its website. “At Modern America Campgrounds, we are committed to preserving the traditions that make Thomas Point so special while investing in various improvements to enhance your experience,” the company said.
The company noted plans to upgrade facilities and expand recreational offerings at the campground. “From upgrading facilities to expanding recreational areas, our goal is to make camping at Thomas Point better than it has ever been,” the statement continued.
Modern America Campgrounds operates multiple campground properties across New England and New York.
