Kampgrounds of America (KOA) has welcomed the Decatur/Wheeler Lake KOA Holiday back into its network, expanding its portfolio of outdoor hospitality destinations.

Under the leadership of Beyonder Camp, the lakeside campground in Hillsboro, Alabama, aims to enhance guest experiences while benefiting from KOA’s established brand recognition and operational support.

Situated on a peninsula along Wheeler Lake, the campground offers a natural setting with tree-lined sites, waterfront views, and direct access to the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) chain of lakes.

Campers can also utilize the private boat ramp, relax on the private beach, or explore various outdoor activities available on-site.

“We’re delighted to announce the return of this wonderful property to the KOA Holiday brand,” said Justin Hoggatt, campground owner and co-founder of Beyonder Camp.

“Situated on the picturesque Wheeler Lake, it offers a wide array of recreational opportunities that our campers truly enjoy. We take great pleasure in ensuring our guests’ happiness through exceptional service and thoughtful amenities,” Hoggatt added.

KOA’s annual Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report highlights the economic impact of campgrounds, noting that the average camper spends $156 daily while traveling.

The report also indicates that 30% of campers seek small-town experiences, while another 30% prioritize food tourism. Hoggatt has focused on strengthening relationships with local businesses to support the regional economy and enhance guest experiences.

KOA Holiday campgrounds provide accommodations for a range of travelers, from long-term vacationers to overnight guests. The Decatur/Wheeler Lake KOA Holiday includes full-service RV sites with KOA Patio amenities, as well as Deluxe Cabins with full bathrooms.

Guests at the Decatur/Wheeler Lake KOA Holiday have access to a variety of recreational activities. The campground features a rope park with zip lines, rental options for kayaks and jet skis, horseback riding, and a seasonal outdoor movie theater.

Additional amenities include a playground, beach volleyball court, gemstone and artifact mining, and a convenience store.

In line with Beyonder Camp’s vision for expanded offerings, the campground will host the inaugural Wheeler Lake Palooza on June 7. The event will feature local bands performing original music across two stages, with beach access, tailgating opportunities, and on-site accommodations.

Future developments at the campground include expanded camping sites, a new marina, and an on-site restaurant.

“When we purchased this location in 2023, its scenic beauty and prime spot on Wheeler Lake stood out, offering easy access to outdoor recreation and meeting the region’s strong camping demand. The opportunity to enhance an already well-placed campground and upgrade it to meet KOA standards made it an appealing venture for us,” Hoggatt said.
