February may be the shortest month of the year. But it was still jam-packed with news from around the cruise industry, including new ships, leadership changes and ongoing wave season deals.

American Cruise Lines Christens New Ship American Legend

American Cruise Lines has officially welcomed another new ship to its fleet. This month, the brand christened American Legend in Key West, Florida.

Carnival Cruise Line Celebrates 10 Years of Christine Duffy

Christine Duffy has been at the helm of Carnival Cruise Line for a decade. She joined the brand in 2015 after serving as the chief executive officer of Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). 

Amadeus River Cruises to Welcome New Ship in 2026

The Amadeus River Cruises fleet is growing yet again. The brand revealed this month that it’s preparing to add Amadeus Aurea to its line-up of European river cruise ships in 2026. The 158-guest vessel will sail the Rhine and Danube rivers.

MSC Miami Cruise Terminal Welcomes First Ship

The new MSC Miami Cruise Terminal welcomed its first ship in February, as the MSC Seascape docked there for the first time. It’s the largest terminal in the world and can host three ships at the same time.

AmaWaterways Names Catherine Powell as New President

Big leadership changes at AmaWaterways: The river cruise line named Catherine Powell its new president. Co-founder Rudi Schreiner will remain the company’s chief executive officer, while co-founder Kristin Karst will transition to the chief brand ambassador role.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Brands Now Accept Payment Via PayPal

Guests can now pay for their Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises vacations using PayPal. The payment platform is teaming up with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings for the new option.

Royal Caribbean Reveals Name of Newest Ship: Legend of the Seas

This month, Royal Caribbean International unveiled the name of its newest ship: Legend of the Seas. The Icon Class ship will launch in July 2026., offering Western Mediterranean cruises before sailing across the Atlantic to start the first Caribbean season.

Charles “Bud” Darr Becomes CLIA’s New President and CEO

Charles “Bud” Darr officially took the helm of Cruise Lines International Association this month. The organization’s new president and chief executive officer says he is optimistic about the industry’s future.

Kate McCue Announces Departure From Celebrity Cruises

Kate McCue, the internet-famous ship captain of Celebrity Beyond, announced on Instagram that she’s leaving the company.

“Today, I say farewell to Celebrity,” she wrote. “I've spent the last 22 years on 11 ships in the Royal Caribbean Group, from 2nd Officer to Captain. I have seen some of the most beautiful places, met inspiring and wonderful people, and had opportunities to live my 12 year-old dream out loud!”

Mike Cameron made headlines this month after receiving a $47,000 bill for medical attention on a cruise ship. 

Wave Season Continues, Cruise Lines Extend Promotions

Wave season continued this month, with several cruise lines extending their promotions, including Celestyal Cruises and Seabourn. Quark Expeditions also unveiled a new deal for solo travelers, and Scenic Group is offering spring savings. Regent Seven Seas Cruises also announced new travel advisor incentives.

Theme Cruises Remain Popular

February was a big month for theme cruises. Travelers can enjoy the Monsters of Rock and On the Blue Cruise music charters in 2025, as well as a “Star Trek” 60th anniversary cruise in 2026. The Pittsburgh Steelers announced their first-ever fan cruise, and true crime fans are invited to congregate on the Norwegian Joy in 2026.
