Ozark National Scenic Riverways in Missouri revised its campground reservation policy for the 2025 season, designating all developed campgrounds and large group sites as reservation-only. The change affects Big Spring, Alley Spring, Round Spring, Pulltite, Two Rivers, and Akers campgrounds.
Reservations for these sites can be made through Recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777. Same-day reservations will be available, allowing visitors to book campsites closer to their arrival date.
Backcountry campgrounds will remain first-come, first-served throughout the year, continuing previous practices.
However, starting April 15, campers at these sites must use a new “Scan & Pay” system available in the Recreation.gov mobile app to complete payments.
The mobile application is available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play. According to a press release, park officials recommend that visitors download the app and create an account before arrival.
Once downloaded, the “Scan & Pay” system functions offline. Campers select a site, scan a QR code at the campground bulletin board, and confirm their booking.
Primitive camping remains unchanged. These remote sites continue to be free and non-reservable, offering a rustic option without amenities.
Ozark National Scenic Riverways was established by Congress on August 27, 1964, to protect 134 miles of the Current and Jacks Fork rivers in the Ozark Highlands of southeastern Missouri. It was the first national park unit designated as a “scenic riverways.”
Among the developed sites, Alley Spring is the park’s largest campground. Located along the Jacks Fork River, it offers electric and non-electric sites, group and cluster sites, and proximity to swimming, hiking trails, and Alley Mill.
In addition to camping, the park supports a wide range of outdoor recreation including boating, canoeing, swimming, fishing, tubing, hiking, and bird watching. Site availability varies by location and season.
