Construction of the $5.2 million Mohican State Park visitor center in Loudonville, Ohio, reached a milestone as crews are completing the installation of the final structural steel trusses on the 4,500-square-foot facility.

Positioned near the park’s main entrance, the new visitor center will serve as a key landmark visible from the roadway. Located within the floodplain alongside the State Scenic Clear Fork of the Mohican River, the site combines accessibility with a scenic natural setting.

“We’re thrilled to see this project moving forward even through the challenges of winter weather,” ODNR Director Mary Mertz said, as reported by Mid-Ohio’s County

“The new visitor center will serve as a gateway to Mohican State Park, giving visitors an opportunity to learn about the area’s natural beauty while enhancing their overall park experience,” Mertz added.

The new center is positioned near the park’s main entrance for optimal accessibility. An ADA-compliant low-slope ramp leads to the entrance, while the building features olive green siding mounted on a natural stone base that reflects the park’s geological features.

The facility’s layout includes a main exhibit hall with two wings. One wing contains public restrooms and retail space, while the other houses staff offices, storage areas, and mechanical systems.

The climate-controlled entrance vestibule will provide 24-hour access to restrooms and drinking fountains. Covered exterior porches and an outdoor fireplace complement the design, with landscaping implemented to address potential flooding concerns.

The Ohio Facilities Construction Commission is overseeing construction, with completion expected in fall 2025. The center will serve more than 150,000 annual visitors, supporting the park’s outdoor recreation programs and camping facilities.
