Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky will temporarily close several river access areas and roads beginning Friday, April 4, in response to expected high-water levels on the Green River.
The closures include Green River Ferry’s vehicle ferry operations on Friday, followed by the Dennison Ferry Day Use Area and Dennison Ferry Road on Saturday, April 5.
Additionally, Green River Ferry Road—from the intersection with Mammoth Cave Parkway to the intersection of Maple Springs Campground—will be closed, along with Houchin Ferry Campground and Houchin Ferry Road.
Closures are necessary for public safety and will remain in place until water levels recede, flood-related debris is removed, and conditions allow for the safe resumption of visitor services.
The affected areas are frequently used by campers, kayakers, and day visitors accessing the Green River, which is known for its scenic beauty and recreational opportunities. Seasonal high-water events often require the park to restrict access in flood-prone zones.
“The Green River Ferry is temporarily closed due to high-water conditions and debris. For the most up-to-date information on the water levels at the Green River Ferry crossing, view the Daily Forecast for the Green River at Mammoth Cave National Park,” NPS announced.
