Kampgrounds of America (KOA) has been named a finalist in the 2025 Inspiring Workplaces Awards across North America.
The recognition places KOA alongside other major brands including Equifax, Novo Nordisk, and SurveyMonkey in the non-survey-based awards program presented in association with Employera.
Based in Billings, Montana, KOA employs 1,200 staff across North America and was selected for its emphasis on building a workplace culture centered on connection, innovation, and well-being. The company’s mission to “connect people to the outdoors and each other” is reflected in its internal policies and employee-focused initiatives.
KOA promotes professional development through programs such as its Leadership Cohort training series, which includes mentorship and growth opportunities.
CEO Toby O’Rourke facilitates communication and transparency through regular senior leadership meetings and quarterly business updates, while initiatives like Trail Mixes offer employees a chance to connect through shared interests such as hiking, book clubs, and automotive hobbies.
Employee well-being remains a core focus at KOA, with offerings such as wellness stipends, flexible work arrangements, and engagement events designed to support staff. The company also supports community involvement through the Kampgrounds of America Foundation and partnerships with organizations such as the Care Camps Foundation.
KOA’s sustainability efforts are driven by its Kamp Green program, which involves employees in environmental initiatives. The company also encourages creativity through its Campground of the Future program, which invites staff to explore new technologies shaping the outdoor hospitality industry.
In addition, KOA promotes cultural growth and internal collaboration through its Change Agent program, which encourages employees to submit ideas for improving workplace culture and community engagement.
“Being named a finalist for the 2025 Inspiring Workplaces Awards reflects the strong, people-first culture we’ve built at KOA,” said O’Rourke. “Our employees are the heart of our organization, and we are dedicated to creating an environment where they can build meaningful connections, thrive, and create to the best of their abilities.”
The Inspiring Workplaces Awards, now in their 10th year, recognize organizations that prioritize trust, purpose, and inclusion. Finalists are chosen based on six key areas: culture and purpose, leadership, wellbeing, inclusion, employee voice, and employee experience.
