Holland America Line is expanding its “Made Fresh Daily” onboard offerings to include pasta, bread and dessert options.
Guests sailing onboard Holland America Line’s fleet can now enjoy a variety of freshly made dishes, from baguettes and spaghetti to made-to-order pizza. Holland America Line also makes fresh gelato, waffle cones, desserts and pastries every day.
This summer, the line also plans to launch a new signature bread: sourdough raisin with pumpkin seed. It will be available across the entire fleet every night in the Pinnacle Grill and on dressy nights in the dining room.
“When bread or pasta is made fresh, you can certainly taste the difference, which is why we take a close look at our culinary program to assess what we can make on board from scratch as another way to bring our Destination Dining culinary platform to life,” says Michael Stendebach, vice president of food, beverage and rooms division for Holland America Line.
For Lido Market, chef Ethan Stowell has created an Italian-inspired menu full of fresh pasta dishes like tortiglioni with basil pesto, haricot vert and baby potatoes; paccheri with spicy tomato, shrimp and parsley; spaghetti with beef and ricotta meatballs, basil and tomato; casarecce with beef short rib bolognaise; and basked conchiglie with mozzarella and tomato basil.
And, at New York Pizza, Stowell is also preparing the “Primo,” a new pizza featuring salami, pickled peppers and red onion atop a freshly made crust.
Holland America Line is also once again teaming up with Sur La Table to offer cooking classes across the nation. Participants will have a chance to prepare fresh, scratch-made dishes inspired by the cruise line’s Destination Dining program.
The new “Made from Scratch Ravioli with Holland America Line” class debuts this month. Guests will learn how to make a delicious dish featuring smoked salmon ravioli with vodka cream sauce, Swiss chard and ricotta ravioli with lemon brown butter. They’ll also make stroopwafel apple crumble.
“Our initial class on fresh fish with Sur La Table was fantastic, and we are excited to expand the partnership by having consumers prepare and cook a menu that is carefully crafted by both brands connecting to the more than 140 ports we call at across Europe,” says Kacy Cole, chief marketing officer for Holland America Line.
