A proposal to develop an RV park east of Hickory Tree Road in Osceola County has been postponed again, now scheduled for consideration at the County Commission’s May 19 meeting.
The plan, which outlines a 35-acre development south of Alligator Road with 130 RV sites, was initially set for discussion at tonight’s commission meeting.
However, it was removed from the agenda, marking another postponement after an earlier delay from March.
Nearby residents, particularly from the Hanover Lakes community, have actively opposed the proposal.
Over the past several weeks, they have mobilized through social media, organized door-to-door outreach, and attended commission meetings to voice their concerns.
County Commissioner Ricky Booth, who represents District 5, acknowledged the opposition, stating that residents he has spoken with believe the proposed density does not align with the surrounding area.
“The county is exploring options regarding the property,” Booth said, as reported by Osceola News-Gazette on March 17.
The delay allows additional time for public input and further evaluation by county officials. The May 19 meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., where commissioners are expected to revisit the proposal and address public concerns.
The Hickory Tree RV Park Proposal underscores the importance of community engagement in development projects, highlighting how resident concerns can shape land-use decisions. This case demonstrates the necessity for developers to proactively address public concerns, ensuring that proposed projects align with local expectations while meeting regulatory requirements.
