Frontier Airlines has just officially announced plans to transition its operations at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to the highly anticipated Terminal 6 (T6). In doing so, the ultra-low-cost carrier becomes the 13th international airline among a growing list that intend upon making T6 their new home when it opens in 2026. It joins Air Canada, Aer Lingus, ANA, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Condor, JetBlue Airways, Kuwait Airways, Lufthansa, Norse and SWISS.
JFK Millennium Partners (JMP), the company that’s overseeing the construction and operation of T6, has been working closely with airlines to create a cutting-edge travel hub. Frontier’s inclusion will further solidify the new terminal’s role in the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey’s ambitious $19 billion redevelopment of JFK Airport into a world-class gateway. The completed project will see the addition of two new terminals, a pair of freshly expanded and modernized terminals, a new ground transportation center and a wholly new, simplified roadway network.
Frontier travelers can anticipate a seamless, technology-driven experience at Terminal 6, where the average walk from the TSA security checkpoint exit to any gate is under five minutes. The terminal will also feature biometric-enabled, self-service bag drop stations; 100,000 square feet of NYC-inspired retail, dining, lounges and other amenities; curated public art displays; eco-friendly operational elements; and an elevated guest experience throughout.
"We are thrilled to be part of Frontier's successful journey at JFK airport, and we look forward to continuing to grow our partnership while offering Frontier passengers a state-of-the-art, entirely new boutique experience at T6," said Steve Thody, CEO, JFK Millennium Partners.
"Frontier Airlines is excited to continue expanding our operations at JFK and we look forward to transitioning to the new, state-of-the-art Terminal 6 next year," said Matthew Sattler, director of airport planning and facilities, Frontier Airlines. "There is no doubt our customers are going to enjoy the beautiful facilities, modern technology and abundant amenities that T6 will offer."
Frontier has been expanding its presence at JFK since launching its first flights from Terminal 7 in June 2024, initially offering service to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The airline, known for its "Low Fares, Done Right" and fuel-efficient A320neo fleet, currently operates six daily flights from JFK’s Terminal 7 to such key destinations as Atlanta, Orlando, Tampa and Las Vegas. This spring, Frontier is set to introduce four additional daily flights, including nonstop service to Miami (March 31, 2025), Dallas-Fort Worth (April 22, 2025), and Los Angeles (May 1, 2025).
