Fairy Stone State Park’s main campground will be closed for the 2025 camping season to undergo significant renovations, the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation announced.
The campground, which typically operates from March through December, is expected to reopen in March 2026.
The renovation project will include upgrades to the water system, repaving of water and electric hookups from 20 to 50 amps, and the creation of a new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible pull-through campsite with a sidewalk leading to the bathhouse, according to a park statement.
“These renovations will bring modern amenities, improved accessibility and an overall better camping experience for our guests,” said Park Manager Adam Layman, as reported by Martinsville Bulletin.
“We’re excited about the long-term benefits these improvements will provide and look forward to welcoming campers back to the main campground in 2026,” Layman added.
In addition to the main campground closure, the park’s yurts will be temporarily closed during the 2025 season for the installation of exterior water spigots and electrical outlets. A reopening date has not yet been determined.
Park operations, including educational programs and day-use areas, will continue as scheduled throughout the renovation period.
Visitors can still access hiking trails, picnic areas, and the park’s 168-acre lake, officials stated.
Guests seeking overnight accommodations can reserve a cabin, the lodge, or a site at the equestrian campground, which includes 10 electric and water-equipped sites that can accommodate RVs up to 50 feet long.
While the equestrian campground is primarily intended for visitors with horses, non-horse campers can book a site within 30 days of their intended arrival.
