Actress Drew Barrymore will serve as the godmother of MSC Cruises’ newest ship, MSC World America.
Barrymore starred alongside Orlando Bloom in the cruise line’s Super Bowl commercial, which is part of the new “Let’s Holiday” national brand campaign.
Both Barrymore and Bloom will attend MSC World America’s naming ceremony at the new MSC Miami Cruise Terminal on April 9. The 6,762-guest vessel will then embark on a celebratory three-night sailing to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, where the MSC Foundation will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Marine Conservation Center.
When MSC Cruises’ leaders asked if Barrymore wanted to be MSC World America’s godmother, she “immediately said yes,” she said.
“I absolutely love to travel—it fuels my soul—and being part of something that helps people set off on incredible adventures is just amazing,” she added. “There’s something so magical about cruises; they let you discover the world in this really fun, unexpected way. And to be able to name MSC World America and send the ship off with well wishes and good luck is such an honor.”
Barrymore, meanwhile, embodies the MSC Cruises brand perfectly, with her “exquisite style and grace, and her passion for the comfort and adventure we find through travel,” says Suzanne Salas, executive vice president of marketing, e-commerce and sales for MSC Cruises USA.
