After six years of construction, Cambodia’s new Techo International Airport is expected to begin welcoming arrivals this July.
According to the Associated Press, Techo International Airport is located around 19 miles from the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh and began construction in 2019 as a $1.5 billion joint venture between the government and the Overseas Cambodian Investment Corp.

“I think the TIA airport here is going to be launched in the soft opening in July 2025, and we believe that so many passengers are waiting and they really want to come in to see this new airport,” said Charles Vann, director of the airport’s project steering committee, during a media tour, which AP News reported.
British architecture firm Foster + Partners designed the airport to feature an overarching roof canopy constructed from a steel grid shell, which filters in daylight providing a natural light source.
When the airport opens in July, it will be able to welcome 13 million passengers a year. It will continue two more phased expansions, allowing its capacity to increase to 50 million passengers by 2050.

Cambodia relies heavily on tourism as a main source of strength for its economy. In 2023, Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport opened to connect travelers to Siem Reap, the city located near the country’s biggest tourist attraction, Angkor Wat.
