American Airlines Redesigning Mobile App for More Seamless Travel Experience

3 weeks ago 3

The passenger experience at American Airlines is becoming more seamless before travelers even set foot in the airport.

The Dallas-based carrier has announced new changes coming to its mobile app to make common traveler needs—like checking for flight updates and finding frequent flier statistics—easier and more intuitive.

New features rolling out on the app throughout May include a redesigned home screen to showcase travelers’ upcoming trips in the near future and an overview of their AAdvantage loyalty account, as well as the ability to use the app more smoothly on an iPad.

Beyond the home screen, users will find new sections with information on their flight statuses, upcoming trips that might be farther in the future, and an area solely dedicated to their AAdvantage account that explains their current loyalty status, frequent flier miles, and in-depth details about their account.

For users with iOS, the app will also be able to display real-time flight status updates on the device’s lock screen.

“Over the last year, our team has been taking feedback from customers to understand their pain points and wish lists to make sure we’re tailoring the next evolution of the app to deliver what they want most,” said Heather Garboden, American’s chief customer officer. This newly redesigned app is the first step in giving us a base that will allow us to continue to build and release new features so we can always deliver what customers value most.”

Current app features will still be available in the newer iterations, too, including the ability to check in, check bags, and choose seats on flights, chatting with customer service agents, rebooking flights during disruptions, checking security wait times at select airports, and many others.

The new features are only the first of several rounds of upgrades the app will receive in coming months.
