Qatar Airways’ fleet is growing in a major way.
The Doha-based carrier made history on Wednesday as it placed the largest order of widebody planes ever at Boeing.
Under the record-breaking new agreement, Qatar is purchasing 130 Boeing 787 Dreamliner planes and 30 Boeing 777-9 planes. The latter aircraft is a brand new jet for Boeing whose rollout has faced years of delays.
It's now set to debut in 2026, and when it does, it will be the world’s largest twin-engine airplane.
The purchase agreement also includes options for up to 50 additional 787 and 777X planes. The official signing of the order took place during President Trump’s visit to the country, and he was present at the ceremony, along with Boeing’s CEO Kelly Ortberg and the CEO of Qatar Airways Group Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer.
The order is also the largest-ever fleet purchase in Qatar Airways’ history, and once the planes are delivered, the airline will be the largest operator of 787 Dreamliners in the Middle East. Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer called the order a “critical next step for Qatar Airways on our path as we invest in the cleanest, youngest and most efficient fleet in global aviation."
The airline’s fleet already consists of 150 Boeing planes, which are currently a mix of 777s and 787s.
