Alaska Airlines Adds Three New Nonstop Routes, Increasing Flights From San Diego by 30 Percent

Alaska Airlines is launching three nonstop routes this spring from San Diego International Airport (SAN). The new routes will begin later this year with multiple daily departures.

The first of the new flights to launch will be a nonstop from SAN to Phoenix on August 20. That will be followed by new services to Chicago O’Hare and Denver, both beginning on October 4. Each of the new routes will be served by three daily flights. Alaska will use its Boeing 737 planes on the Chicago and Phoenix routes, and its 737s and Embraer 175s on the Denver-bound flights.

The carrier is also increasing flight frequencies by 50 percent on its four most popular existing routes at SAN, starting October 26. The additional frequencies will be a significant expansion in operations across the routes, with six daily nonstops to Las Vegas; Sacramento, California; and San Jose, California; as well as three daily nonstops to Salt Lake City. Alaska said these additional flights will help it “meet growing demand for our premium product.”

“We are very pleased that Alaska Airlines is continuing to grow its service from San Diego,” said Kimberly Becker, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority president and CEO. “The timing is perfect for adding new routes and increasing frequency to existing flights. We look forward to welcoming both leisure and business visitors to our year-round sunny climate while providing more flights from SAN to destinations across the country.”

When the new routes take off, Alaska will offer a total of 44 nonstop routes from San Diego, together with its partner Hawaiian Airlines, which Alaska fully acquired in September 2024. That’s the most nonstops of any airline at SAN and includes routes to the East Coast, Florida, Mexico, and all of the four major Hawaiian islands.

Earlier this year, Alaska added a new route from San Diego to Washington, D.C.’s Reagan National Airport (DCA). Before that nonstop launched in March 2025, SAN had been the largest airport in the country with no service to DCA.
